肺微血管內(nèi)皮細胞構(gòu)成半選擇性屏障，該屏障對于肺氣體交換，調(diào)節(jié)液體和可溶物在血液與肺間質(zhì)之間的流動具有重要意義。它還具有代謝功能，可以執(zhí)行一定的非呼吸功能。在肺損傷中，PMECs是活性氧類的重要靶細胞之一。在肺炎的發(fā)生過程中，神經(jīng)體液介質(zhì)和氧化劑作用于內(nèi)皮細胞，使得細胞間隙滲透性增加，蛋白質(zhì)由血液進入間質(zhì)。細胞間隙滲透性的增加導(dǎo)致低氧血癥，出現(xiàn)**呼吸窘迫綜合征和非心源性肺水腫。
人肺微血管內(nèi)皮細胞提取于人肺組織，細胞提取純化之后立即凍存。每管含有細胞數(shù)>5×105 cells/ml，此細胞通過vWF/Factor VIII 和CD31 (P-CAM)免疫熒光染色驗證，經(jīng)測試不含有HIV-1、HBV、HCV、支原體、細菌、酵母和真菌。細胞可以達到10倍增。
